Jane Alonso, Senate Legislative Director and Committee Staffer, Joins Monument Policy Group as Vice President

Washington, D.C. - Monument Policy Group LLC today announced that Jane Alonso joined the firm on July 1, 2009, as Vice President of Government Relations.

Previously, Jane worked for Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), where she had served for seven years, most recently as Legislative Director. During her time with the Senator, she developed and implemented a legislative agenda on a broad range of issues, including health care, energy, defense, foreign policy, trade, and taxes.  She also oversaw Senator Collins’ work as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and served as a Professional Staff Member for the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee.

A native of Miami, Florida, Jane also worked for Senator Bob Graham (D-FL) and Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and John Mica (R-FL). She also served as a volunteer for the Mel Martinez (R-FL) Senate campaign. Jane also twice served as an Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) election supervisor in Bosnia following the end of the war and worked in the political section of the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo in 2000.

Creating bipartisan relationships has been a constant focus of Jane's career. Jane was a co-founder of and active participant in the Senate Bipartisan Legislative Directors Group and served as a 2008 Stennis Fellow, a program that brings together a competitively selected group of senior Hill staffers members to foster bipartisan relationships and explore ways to improve the effectiveness of Congress.

"In an era where Senate moderates often hold the key to legislative success, we are thrilled to have Jane join Monument Policy Group," said the firm's Founder and Partner, C. Stewart Verdery, Jr.  "I have worked with Jane as a critical part of Senator Collins’ office as a government official and for our clients and have found her to be talented and respected, and always with a keen eye for how Congress and agencies are likely to act."

Partner Tim Punke added, “Jane is going to be a tremendous asset to our increasingly diverse client base. Her experience in both the Senate and House, along with her deep ties to moderate Republicans and Democrats, gives her a unique perspective, and an ability to find creative solutions to challenging issues.”

Jane holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, where she was a Public Service Fellowship merit recipient, and a Bachelors degree in International Affairs from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.
