The Monument Policy Group is committed to helping non-profit and public interest groups to create change through advocacy and civil participation. We assist clients in developing strategies that help build coalitions, educate the public, influence Congress and agencies, and identify supporters within the political, media, and academic spaces.
In the non-profit and public interest space, Monument Policy Group has worked on a number of issue areas, including legal issues, immigration, children’s health, public lands, the environment, diversity, and social justice. Our team has also served in leadership capacity in a number of non-profit organizations, dedicating time and effort to promoting their efforts to develop and deliver effective political policy.
Partner Jessica Herrera-Flanigan is an active leader in the Hispanic community and has worked with numerous corporate and non-profit groups, as well as within government, to promote diversity and advocate on behalf of facets of the Latino community. As Staff Director of the House Homeland Security Committee, she oversaw one of the most diverse staffs on the Hill. She has served as a Regional President of the Hispanic National Bar Association and as President of the Hispanic Bar Association of D.C. She has three times been recognized by Hispanic Business as one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the U.S. In addition to her work in the Latino community, Jessica has been involved in a number of community organizations. She is a former Board of Director for Books for America and was recognized by the law firm Crowell & Moring LLP with its first-ever Pro Bono Award for her pro bono work on Tribal, domestic violence, and AIDS issues.
Partner and Founder C. Stewart Verdery, Jr. serves as an Adjunct Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Project 2049 Institute. He previously was a member of the Independent Task Force on Immigration and America’s Future at the Migration Policy Institute, and serves as a class officer for his law school class at the University of Virginia School of Law and on the Board of Advisors at the Woodberry Forest School.
Partner Tim Punke has worked on environmental issues – both during government service and as a Board Member of the King County Conservation Voters. Partner Andrew Howell served as senior vice president of the National Chamber Foundation, the public policy research arm of the Chamber. During years at the foundation, he transformed the operations of the organization and turned it into a powerful Washington think-tank, which today boasts a staff of 12 and an annual budget of over $2 million.
Monument Policy Group is dedicated to using our resources to help non-profits and public interest entities meet their challenges and influence change in Washington, D.C.
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
- Represent volunteer-based organization dedicated to the preservation and management of the natural, scenic, historic, and cultural resources associated with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
- Support leading non-profit sports organization on its efforts to promote amateur sports domestically and internationally.
- Acted as executive director for two years for the federal advisory Secure Borders and Open Doors Advisory Committee on behalf of the committee co-chair, including drafting a comprehensive report to improve policies to promote U.S. public diplomacy and international travel.
- Advocated for the leading bar association of immigration practitioners, including advocacy for comprehensive immigration reform and collaboration with a wide range of public interest and religious groups on Congressional and media strategy.
- Supported the legislation efforts of an ad hoc business coalition advocating for immigration reform.
- Act as the chief policy adviser for the leading business travel organization in the world, for whom we have supported legislation to assist business travelers who are wrongly placed on terrorist watch lists, helped create and fund a new trusted traveler program for international travelers, and spoken before dozens of client events around the world on travel issues.
